We’re proud to announce the successful completion of a landmark project at Manchester’s Science and Industry Museum: the full mechanical services package for the restoration and decarbonisation of the iconic Power Hall.
Closed since 2018, the Grade II-listed Power Hall has undergone a significant transformation. Murray Building Services played a key role in delivering critical mechanical infrastructure to support both the conservation of industrial heritage and the transition to sustainable energy systems.
Scope of Works Delivered:
- Full mechanical installation for the decarbonisation of the Power Hall and 1830 WarehouseWater source heat pump and ground source heat pump systems
- New abstraction borehole with associated pumps and controls
- Electric steam boiler and steam distribution system
- Plate heat exchangers, associated pumps and accessories
- Modifications to existing heating distribution systems
- Integration of services with Historic Working Machinery
- Heating, ventilation, public health and drainage systems
This project seamlessly blends heritage conservation with cutting-edge low-carbon technology—future-proofing one of Manchester’s most significant cultural landmarks.
The reopening of the Power Hall was recently featured on ITV News, highlighting its importance to the city’s industrial story and its role in inspiring future generations.
