Trio of West Yorkshire fire station installations

The Wakefield fire station on Brunswick Street, has been the home to firefighters in the city for over 50 years.

No longer meeting the operational requirements of a modern-day fire service, Wakefield Council’s planning committee approved the £2.9 million scheme that would see the original building demolished and replaced with a more energy efficient structure.

The new build contract was awarded to local contractor, Marshalls Building Contractors and will include a kitchen/dining space, office space and gym along with a new training yard and tower. The existing youth intervention building will also be refurbished.

Murray Building Services will carry out the mechanical and electrical installations, marking their third contract for the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS).

A full list of the mechanical and electrical work is outlined below:

  • Full energy efficient LED lighting (internal and external)
  • Fire alarm installation
  • LPHW Heating system and associated plant
  • DX heating and cooling systems
  • Heat recovery ventilation
  • Incoming mains services
  • Domestic water services (including solar hot water generation plant)
  • Small power/data installations

The project is due for completion in September 2020.

Other WYFRS contracts include: Ossett and Shipley Fire Stations. View our previous projects here.
