It’s been a challenging time for many businesses during the pandemic, with some sectors being hit harder than others. For us, we have been fortunate – the construction sector has continued to flourish and that means more work coming our way!
During 2020, we worked on a number of Covid related projects from fitting additional washbasins in schools to fitting out Covid wards for several local hospitals.
At the same time, we managed to secure several new projects that will see us re-partnering with some of the top construction companies in the Northwest – here’s a summary, some are already complete, and others are set for completion early this year.
We’ve been working with HH Smith & Sons for several years, one of the most recent high specification projects was a new 106 Bed Hilton Hotel at Surf Snowdonia.
New Smiths projects include refurbishment work to the 149-year-old Rochdale Town Hall and Romiley Leisure Centre and Avondale Leisure Centre two of 11 Life Leisure Centres in the UK. Energy-saving measures for the Museum of Science and Industry aimed to reduce their massive 1.590m Kw heating usage. Works included the installation of Five Ground Source Heat Pumps.
A new partner for 2021 was PLP Construction on a project which includes seven new luxury house builds located on the grounds of Oakhill School and Nursery in Whalley – one home complete with an indoor swimming pool!
As the leisure and hospitality industry is gearing up for a return to full capacity – we will be providing building services for Swim Central a new children’s pool in Fulwood and work is also planned for the new Manchester City onsite TV Studio.
The health sector continues to require our services and we have three new hospital projects in the bag for Westmorland General (Pinningtons), Royal Lancaster (City Build). And the Royal Blackburn Hospital for their blood bank department. We have also secured the fit-out work for the final MRI scanning unit in a project of four scanning rooms at the Christie Hospital in Manchester. MBS originally carried out the first phase of three scanning rooms in 2016 with City Build Ltd.
With continuing work in the Education Sector, we are due to complete the extension to Firwood School in Bolton very soon. This is a project where MBS carried out the mechanical and electrical services. We are also due to commence the works on a new build project for Bury College which has a contract value over £1.2M.
It’s great to see the economy bounce back after a difficult couple of years that has seen businesses forced to adapt to new ways of working.
