John Rylands Research Institute
The University of Manchester’s John Rylands Research Institute and Library is investing £ 7.5 million in upgrades to the facility to transform the researcher and visitor experience.
The John Rylands Library is situated between Deansgate and Spinningfields in Manchester. Named after John Rylands, one of the most successful businessmen in Victorian England and Manchester’s first multi-millionaire. The library was founded in his name and is home to one of the world’s richest and most unique collections of books and manuscripts, with objects dating back as far as the 1500s.
MBS has been appointed by HH Smith Construction for the M&E works, which will include the installation of a new chilled water and air handling plant as well as modifications to the existing steam, domestic, and ventilation services.
Other project wins
We continue to have a healthy order book with our regular clients Royal Blackburn Hospital (returning to the RBH for works on the Tower View Offices), Ormskirk Hospital (D Ward) and Rochdale Town Hall – Phase 3 (the supply and installation of air source heat pumps, and modifications to their existing heating systems).
New projects include Moho Apartments Manchester – Modular construction designed by award-winning architects shedkm, the building has won awards for innovation, design and marketing and Bury College Woodbury Centre – Located on Market Street, Bury.

Full-time Service Desk Advisor to support our maintenance division.
